The Culture Garden: Youth Leadership for Collaboration programme provides essential tools and practices, as well as opportunities for individual and group self-reflection, which empower young people to succeed in any collaborative group context. The program engages with leadership, not as a quality held by one person or by a select few, but as a whole-group phenomenon. The governance practices a group uses; the ways that conflict, feedback, and communication are navigated; a group’s relationship to creativity and self-expression; its economic paradigms, and more inform what kind of leadership it potentiates and responds to. In the YLC program, youth are given experiential opportunities to learn and build confidence using the “cultural tools” that enable collaboration in their school, employment, and community contexts.

Uncovering the Garden

Our introductory workshop supports participants to “see” and explore the landscape of group culture. Through storytelling, structured play, and small group reflection, we support participants to identify and unpack their own expectations, biases, and needs in relation to group cultures.

To do so, we introduce a somatic (embodied) skillset which will enable participants to sense into, identify and unpack their expectations, biases, and needs in relation to group cultures. We will playfully externalize, question, and transform our own implicit belief systems with embodied and creative exercises and guided whole- and small-group reflection, in order to touch on the cultural elements that most support groups to thrive. This introduction supports you to consider our deeper explorations offered in our broader consulting programs.

In this introduction, we use a few case studies from our own recent work with groups to illustrate the ways a group’s culture determines the quality of its interpersonal relationships, while negotiating and distributing power & authority within each group. By exploring the implications of a more “Relationally Engaged” perspective, we outline some of the positive outcomes we’ve witnessed in our own work, while also speaking to the pitfalls groups unknowingly fall into when they do not attend to this dimension of practice.

Participant Costs: £55

Blessing the Feminine (online)

November 3, 10, 17, 24

We believe that Masculine and Feminine energies interact and express uniquely through every person and group. Join this participatory series to share and unpack our personal experiences of these powerful archetypal qualities, and to collectively rewrite the script of gender and culture in the world today.

These separate online international workshops are for people of all genders & identities who wish to invoke, explore, and continue to Awaken the Healthy Masculine consciousness (October), followed by inviting a nourishing and reciprocal relationship through Blessing the Feminine consciousness (November + December) as they manifest within themselves and each other. Embodied, experiential activities, as well as an exploration of various archetypes, will be interspersed with verbal sharing and reflection, allowing participants to weave a rich tapestry of shared inquiry.

As a somatic psychotherapist, I have spent over a decade learning and practicing healing modalities that reconnect our human experience with our bodies’ intelligence

In order to restore this connection, and to better understand some of the wounding we carry in our personal and collective fields, it is important for people of all genders to re-visit, reclaim, embody and bless the “feminine” aspects of being.

This can be a tender area of inquiry, as the feminine has been mightily abused, misunderstood, and marginalised – not only within our cultures and gender politics, but often within our own minds and bodies.

This series will provide opportunities to touch into and share from some of these tender places, and also to learn about four feminine archetypes that can be honoured, welcomed, and blessed within ourselves and our communities. I believe that this is an important and restorative practice, whether one identifies as female, male, transgender, nonbinary, or genderqueer.

The 4 archetypes that will guide our journey relate to the 4 seasons and the 4 phases of the menstrual cycle, and are a helpful invitation for all people (whether you have a womb or not) into a cyclical way of being. This is in contrast to the 4 archetypes of the HealthyMasculine.com series, which engaged participants in a more linear developmental journey.

Healthy Masculine 4 Part Series

May 10th, 17th, 24th & 31st

We are in the midtst of experiencing a world-wide conversation on the impacts of the centuries old immature masculine as the shadow sides of the masculine are putting at risk our very own human survival. In this moment in history, as we seek new ways to navigate climate change, support #MeToo, handle fear & isolation during Covid-19, or shift our culturally learned “power over” bullying behaviours at work/school/families —this is our opportunity to deepen towards awakening the Healthy Masculine.

In this Healthy Masculine 4 Part series council-sharing circle, I invite participants to explore the many meanings of “masculinity” embodied in all genders. By exploring and understanding how the immature (shadow sides) and the adolescent masculine show up in ourselves, we can bring a balanced awareness to practice and integrate the healthy/mature sides of the various masculine archetypes:
Sovereign, Warrior, Magician, Lover.

Supporting Connection, Creativity & Collaboration during the Covid-19 lockdown

We want to hear from you about what’s challenging, what’s hopeful, and what truly matters to you, during these unprecedented times.

Challenge and struggle are fearsome forces, which can have the impact of surfacing what’s most precious and true. We believe that, by simply coming together to share and reflect on our personal experiences in a carefully held space of “deep listening”, we can sense and feel our way collectively towards more fertile ground — a place from which to step, together, into a better future.

Through small group councils, guided visualisations and meditation, and large group sharing, we will take a deep in-breath and out-breath together, to listen, reflect, and share, and to give and receive support for the days and weeks ahead.

This Culture Garden Listening Space session is free of charge — it is our heartfelt offering to a world in crisis, and to the brighter future we know is possible.

Healthy Masculine Council (via Zoom)

All Genders Welcome, Ages 18+

This is a non-gendered council about “masculinity”, rooted in sharing, deep listening, and reflection based on participants’ own experiences and heart centered explorations. James Wood facilitates this safe held format inviting vulnerability and trust. Not for offering advice, nor intended to be therapy, these circles are held to provide an opportunity to come together in community to witness, appreciate, and explore with one another the Healthy Masculine. This is an opportunity to re-learn & co-mentor a balanced way of being, moving into a more authentic, emotionally-connected and life-affirming masculine consciousness — inviting a nourishing and reciprocal relationship with the feminine — harnessing a positive presence in our families, friendships, and communities.

“This is an important time in human history: In order to address major social, environmental and political crisis, we are again being called to re-member, re-skill and co-mentor each other in our communities how to live in our Healthy Masculine, supporting a reciprocal and nourishing relationship with the Sacred Feminine.” ~ James Wood

Please register in advance @ www.HealthyMasculine.com to receive the required brief reading, preparations, and Zoom link/password. Co-hosted with MLA: www.mensleadershipalliance.org/online-events
